Judges’ comment “The judges were impressed by the motivation for innovation and invention”Brilliant Ideas has developed a range of construction safety products including its Half Loader Spreader module which is designed to help mobile cranes achieve a more even load spread and handle higher safe working outrigger loads.

Other products include interlocking load spreaders, temporary hole covers and fire retardant foam grout checks.

The company owns 29 patents and its products are being used by major contractors including Laing O’Rourke, Mace and Bam and clients including HS2 Ltd.

The company grew by 51% in 2022/23, when turnover reached £2.1M. It also spent £79,000 on research and development.

Brilliant Ideas chief executive Chris Massey is the main driver behind its innovative products. His inventions come from observing work on sites, feedback from operatives and analysing near-miss situations.
