Judges’ comment “The judges were hugely impressed with how the community has helped to regenerate a Grade II listed lido into a world-class visitor attraction”Jubilee Pool is the UK’s largest seawater lido and was badly damaged in a storm 2014. Local people contributed £600,000 to the project and another £1.2M came from other grants and funding.
The Grade II listed buildings were sensitively restored and infilled with new structures which reflected the original art deco design.
Structures were also updated to provide more robust storm protection. The pool is heated from a 410m deep geothermal well, so that it can remain open all year round.
