Initiative pays off in job hunting
My inbox regularly contains emails from recruitment agencies promoting potential candidates for employment.
While recruitment agencies have their place, a candidate who uses their own initiative and approaches us directly has a higher priority and potentially a greater chance of a job.
This was borne out recently when a graduate used the direct approach.
The candidate had clearly used their initiative, done their research and solved a problem regarding getting their first permanent job.
Indeed, the candidate had taken this approach with other potential employers and secured interviews at each one. Is that not what civil engineering is all about – solving problems?
So, if you are looking for your first job or seeking a job change, do not disregard the direct approach without first having done your research.
