19 Carbon Champions named as part of decarbonisation campaign
Nineteen engineers have been awarded Carbon Champion status by the ICE for their work decarbonising infrastructure.
The title of ICE Carbon Champion was awarded to the engineers from three initiatives in recognition of their efforts to quantifiably reduce carbon emissions.
The initiatives are Geobear’s geopolymer injections; the Cross Tay Link Road involving Perth & Kinross Council and Sweco; and Statera Energy’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (pictured).
Some of the Carbon Champions came from Statera Energy’s battery energy storage systems initiative
The Carbon Champion title is part of an initiative to recognise decarbonisation efforts in civil engineering.
ICE Carbon Champions review panel chair Lara Young said: “Civil engineering is in the unique position of being at the forefront of efforts to transform and improve the world we live in. Decarbonising society and in particular our infrastructure, is a critical step in creating a sustainable future.
“These Carbon Champions embody the best of what the built environment industry can do, recognising champions from every facet of the value chain including planners, environmentalists, commercial teams and engineers.
“These champions are each finding new ways to reduce carbon emissions and build sustainable, resilient infrastructure.”
